Data Assurance Announces Disc Studio Providing
Blu-Ray Recording for Unix and Linux
Palm Springs, CA, May 18, 2007
Data Assurance announced today that Disc Studio HT is now available.
Disc Studio HT provides high capacity optical data recording solution
for Unix platforms through an integrated Plextor Blu-Ray drive,
which can record 25 and 50 GB Blu-Ray discs, as well as CD and DVD
discs for lower capacity storage needs. Blu-Ray drives utilize a
blue-violet laser to increase data density, allowing a CD/DVD-sized
disc to hold more than 10 times as much data as a single layer DVD.
Disc Studio HT can use both write-once and rewritable media.
Disc Studio HT is the next generation of Young Minds' Studio family
of optical disc products, which includes CD Studio®, DVD Studio
, PowerStudio, and MPS4. Disc Studio HT connects via
SCSI to any Unix or Linux server or workstation. Like other Studio
products, Disc Studio HT uses intelligent controller technology
to simplify installation and use, to increase recording reliability,
and to offload recording tasks from the host.
In addition to its capability to record Blu-Ray, Disc Studio HT
also incorporates other advances, such as integrated Young Minds'
High Throughput (HT) Technology. HT Technology allows Disc Studio
HT to record one disc while simultaneously downloading the data
for a second disc. Because of the large amounts of data that Blu-Ray
can store, HT Technology greatly reduces the amount of time needed
to archive data.
"Disc Studio HT is an essential addition to any data center
to provide long term, legally admissable archives," said Bob
Levine, Marketing Director at Data Assurance. "Blu-Ray is superior
to other archival technologies, such as tape, because the data on
a Blu-Ray disc is quickly and easily accessed, and because the discs
themselves are stable without any special handling requirements.
Disc Studio HT's capabilities of recording CD, DVD and Blu-Ray,
with direct connection to most platforms including almost every
Unix and Linux operating system, make it ideal for creating archive
copies and distributing any kind of data."
